The value of the 120hz feature has been widely debated in recent months. There are a number of things to consider before making your decision.

For example, Samsung's feature is called AMP for Auto Motion Plus. This feature takes the screen and interpolates the image to provide a smoother picture to reduce judder.

Does the motion enhancement provide a more satisfactory picture? Again this is open to debate. Motion enhancement at its best provides a noticeably smoother, stable picture, free of jutter, motion blur and ghosting. Some describe gaming in 120Hz as making a 30 frames per second game look like a 60 frames per second game, while others are mesmerized by the ability to make sports and movies look live and 3D-like.

At its worst motion enhancement, especially during fast motion can introduce split second glitches in the picture called artifacts which can obviously be distracting. Others feel that while documentary type shows like Planet Earth can provide stunning stable live action shots, that motion enhancement takes away from the cinematic feel of movies by providing an almost too realistic, live tv or soap opera feel instead of a cinematic experience.

It is important to point out that motion enhancement can be turned on or off, so if you prefer to watch a movie without the motion enhancement you can simply turn it off.

For the time being the choice to go with a 120Hz LCD flat screen tv is purely one of personal choice and budget. Keep in mind that this is a very new technology and as with all new technologies there are still some things that need to be perfected. There is little debate that 120Hz is the wave of the future and that technology will only improve over time. If price is not of primary concern or if you can spare the extra dollars in an attempt to future proof your tv purchase then it would seem to make perfect sense to go with the additional features and benefits that a 120Hz LCD flat screen tv can offer. If price is a primary factor and you are working on a limited budget then one of the standard models would be a fine choice until the 120Hz models are perfected.

Problem # 4: There's a black box blocking the picture We see this all the time. You TV has been accidentally placed into the closed caption mode. To clear this problem, bring up the menu and turn the closed captions off.

Problem # 5: I can't view certain channels on my TV This is usually a password or parental lock problem. If you have forgotten your password, you may be able to access the menu by using the factory default password that you'll find in your owner's manual. If this doesn't work, then you may have to contact the manufacturer for help.

Problem # 6: I don't have sound on some channels, spanish or the weather report on others This is another one we see a lot of. You unit is in the SAP or separate audio program mode. Access the menu and set the audio to normal, standard, or stereo.

Problem # 7: My TV just quit working This could indeed be a real problem, but maybe not. If you have cats or small dogs, do they hang out behind the TV a lot? If so, check and see if they have damaged the power cord or pulled it just far enough out of the wall to allow it to lose contact with the wall outlet. If this is not the case, carefully move the set out from the wall and smell the carpets and look at the back of the set for signs of wetness. If you find this, your pet is urinating into the set and has caused your unit to shut down. Unplug it and take it to the shop as soon as you can.

Problem # 8: No picture, all I get is snow The first thing to do here is to verify that everything is hooked up properly, and that the signal source you want to watch hasn't been changed. If you find no problem here, then you may have a cable box problem, or your satellite provider is down. Contact your company for details on any problem you might be having and don't forget to log on to their website for current information if you can't get through by phone.

Problem # 9: My remote doesn't work verify this by checking to see if you can turn on the set with the panel mounted power button. If this works and the set operates normally, then all you may need to do is change the batteries in the remote to restore operation.

Problem # 10: My TV doesn't work right since my son/daughter started playing with it Kids seem to have a real understanding of electronic gear, and some of them (my son included) love to monkey around with the menus. Some of them will even add their own passwords and setup their own access codes. It's rare that they can do any real harm so make sure that they tell you what they've done so you'll be able to enjoy your own programs.

You Cannot Be Serious - Do You Do it For Fun?

There are certain places that just seem to bring about conversations about betting and my local pub is certainly one of them. Just this past week-end, my drinking friends and I got into an interesting conversation with a seemingly fellow gambling fanatic whilst enjoying the odd pint or three.

This apparently knowledgeable individual was informing all of us that he had acquired "a winning technique". Now I am sure we have all met someone similar in our own local but this individual seemed very plausible in his remonstrations so both my friends and I listened carefully to see if we could glean any worthwhile information. A wise old man once told me... "...even a fool has something to say"!

So what did this person reveal? Well essentially his particular approach was somewhat basic and consisted of him selecting 2 horses that were available at 5/1 or higher, nothing exciting there. He would then back them both as a couple of each way singles and each way doubles, again, nothing new there.

So what was the big secret, well nothing really and since the guy doesn't maintain any data records he couldn't let me know how many points he had won or lost however he explained that he picked up a lot of profits "very frequently"... ever heard that somewhere before? Now, to be honest and give fair due, I have obviously heard of the merits of and indeed used the old each way double many times in the past, but I truly believe that in today's markets it has lost some of the impact it used to have in the good old days.

By using a £1 level stakes this wager would cost him £6 a time in total which I consider is fine for some fun bets however, you would need to have a very high success rate to come out with any real profit and I am sure the losing days are quickly forgotten when explaining to others how successful he was. As you should be aware, any kind of multiple bet is very difficult to pull off and therefore extremely popular with the bookies, both on-line and in the high street. If you doubt this at all, just take a stroll downtown or open up your browser to the on-line brigade and you will see just how much the main betting companies market their particular specialist multiple bets.

However, in case your objective would be to produce a regular income out of your horse racing activities it isn't the ideal way to proceed. I Use My TV As a Computer Monitor, You Can Too

LCD TV Problems - How You Can Fix Them Fast

There are many reasons you could be having problems with your LCD TV. The thing to remember is that these things are microprocessor based, just like your computer. That means that at the first sign of trouble you should do the same thing you do with your computer; reboot it! That's right, if your LCD TV is dead ir unresponsive, turn it off with the remote or power button, wait about 10 seconds, then unplug it from the wall. After about 1 minute, plug the power back in and turn the TV on again. With any luck, your TV is now fixed. The next thing that causes problems with all new TVs, not just LCDs is the HDMI connection.

You see, HDMI is a fantastic way to get high definition video, but it's so good that the content providers were worried their stuff would end up out on the Internet in pure form, easy to copy and distribute. To prevent such an occurrence, a copy protection scheme called High Density Copy Protection (HDCP) was developed. This is an electronic data handshake system where the source and display devices have to recognize each other and agree that it's okay to send video. If there is no handshake, or the process gets corrupted in some way, poof, no more video. This problem was extremely prevalent in the early days of HDMI, but has been steadily improving since about the end of 2007 or early 2008.

If you are having problems with your TV, it may actually be an HDMI related issue. Here are some of the problems you might encounter.

Problem 1: No Picture
If you see, or rather don't see this, then shut everything down and then restart the system. Make sure all the connections are in place first. Look at the screen. If you see a resolution notice chances are the DDC line has communicated between source and sink. Good news for you! The problem is likely video related.

Problem 2: Flashes, No Audio, Pink Screen
No audio accompanied by a pink screen is usually indicative of a DDC communication problem. What's that mean for you? To check this, power up the system while all the HDMI cables are connected. If possible, try using shorter cables. Here you need to see if the system works at all. If for some reason the system still fails to come on, try using different inputs. You may find that your cable box will work and your DVD may not or vice versa. This can happen because of stray capacitance on the DDC line inside the HDMI cable. This may actually be caused by the hardware itself. If you think it may be, try getting a DDC line conditioner. Normally, these types of problems completely go away when conditioning is introduced.

Problem 3: Sparkles in the Picture
This is normally a video data transmission problem. Typically data transmission problems with HDMI are cable related. It could be that the cable is underperforming due to its length. This is especially common with cheap cables. Remember the HDMI spec says cable length should not exceed 10 meters. Shortening the cable should improve the signal integrity. Another possibility in this situation is a bad connector. HDMI connectors are notoriously fickle anyway.Try a new cable at each position along the signal path.

Symptom 4: Picture Comes On, Then Goes Off
Typically, this is caused by one of two things. The first is when one or more of the video TMDS channels has a high bit error rate or is not working at all. Next is when the DDC line doesn't quite make it. In that case, the HDCP is not getting a new refresh key. Buy a in a better quality cable with larger wire. When it comes to wire gauge, smaller gauge equals bigger wire diameter. Hence 20 gauge is larger diameter than 24 gauge.

Television has been placed in a role that is front and center in our lives. Most of the most popular leisure time activities in modern America depend somehow on television. From video games to TV shows to movies-all have conspired to make televisions a necessary element in our daily lives.

The days of quiet reading or chatting with neighbors on the front porch have long past. A large number of us wouldn't even know our neighbors well enough to say little more than hello if we met them on the street. We certainly don't socialize with them on a daily basis. Most books are experienced as audio books we listen to while doing something else or are experienced after they are adapted into a film or TV show. Monitors and PCs have replaced libraries as a source of information and very few read the newspaper when they can turn on Fox News or CNN. Most children don't own any board game or one played anywhere but on a screen, typically without any direct interaction with another child. We experience life through a television screen in one form or another.

Television has the power to bring the world into our homes, while isolating us from anything outside our homes and from each other. We can experience other lives and experiences, without ever leaving our own and actually living them. This makes television both a wonderful invention and a scourge.

For a vast majority of Americans, we cannot remember a time without television nor can we imagine life without it. It is a babysitter, pacifier, entertainer, informer, teacher, voyeur, equalizer and escape. Does any other single thing fulfill all those functions in our lives? Because of this, for good or bad, television is here to stay.
