Best Places to Jog in Albuquerque

Jogging is one of the best daily exercises you can do to keep in shape. While many people spend thousands of dollars on expensive gym memberships or treadmills, a simple jog outdoors is an inexpensive and attractive alternative. All you really need to go for a jog is a pair of running shoes and some comfortable clothing.

Running outdoors can be preferable to running indoors for many reasons. For one thing, you get to breathe fresh air and look at the beautiful scenery when you go for a jog. This is especially true in Albuquerque. Albuquerque sits nearly a mile above sea level and has some of the freshest air in any of America's major cities. The Sandia Mountains are undoubtedly a grander spectacle than you would ever see on a television screen if you were to jog indoors. Albuquerque also boasts more than 300 days of sunshine per year, which makes it an ideal place for a daily jog.

So what are the best places to jog in Albuquerque? Here a couple of the most popular options:

First and foremost is along the base of the Sandia Mountains. If you have ever driven along Tramway, you may have noticed the wide jogging and bike paths that people often use for exercise. If you haven't, then all you need to do to access the jogging path is to drive down Tramway, along the base of the mountains, and pull into one of the many free parking lots. There are few places in the United States where you get the opportunity to jog alongside a mountain, so if you live in Albuquerque, you would be foolish not to take advantage of this.

Because the jogging path on Tramway is beautiful, the downside is that it is often crowded. There are always bikes, dogs, and other joggers you must contend with. If you would like to take your jogs in a more peaceful atmosphere, you might consider jogging along one of the many paths along Albuquerque's vast network of arroyos. In the springtime, massive amounts of snow melt from the mountains and drain into the city. In the past, this has caused a great deal of flooding and damage to Albuquerque's downtown area. To control this flooding, the city has built a large array of arroyos. What is lesser known is that they also built jogging and bike paths along most of them. Sadly, these are under-utilized, although you will occasionally run into a fellow exerciser.

There are probably very few places which offer better jogging options than Albuquerque. I hope this article has given you some ideas about where to take your next jog.
