Outdoor Touch Screen Weather Proof & Waterproof Solution

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Exterior touch screen solutions are now coming on, but they must be weather proof and water proof to cope with the hazards of an outdoor location.

Interactive screen technology is moving on very fast, from the early days of the touch screen computers on factory floors, now we see similar touch technology in our local supermarkets such as in Tesco, Walgreens and Target for the self serve checkouts.

The dynamic signage industry has seen a steady growth in consumer interaction and uses these solutions to test what type of customer this marketing campaign attracts, and then when the demographics are recorded the digital signage company can sell this "proven" solution to businesses who can afford it.

Now electronic signage is moving outside, so expect to see lots of outdoor digital advertising solutions in the next six months. This is when touch screen technology will meet with electronic advertising.

From outdoor interactive screen kiosks to touch screen LCD advertising posters, there is a solution, but this hardware has to be tough enough to cope with the weather and rain, so the perfect solution is a weatherproof and water proof touch screen, this can be achieved by using through window touch technology, this fits to the inside of a stores window or door and all the technology is protected behind the plate glass window of the shop, however if your budget is much smaller, there is alternative solution.

A touch sensitive screen dynamic signage solution, is an outdoor LCD enclosures these are fitted with 5 wire infra red touch screen specifically designed for outdoor use, so all you need to do is install you LCD TV and plug in the connectors, switching the display on resulting in the content running from the small factor PC or media player in the LCD enclosure to the screen and the user controls it all by touch, this solution is IP65.

TV Protection For an Outdoor Television - Providing the Ultimate in an All Weather TV

Image : http://www.flickr.com

No matter if you are deploying an outdoor television by your hot tub or near your pool, you need to offer some kind of TV protection from mainly the weather but also from vandals and potential thieves.

Any television needs to be protected from fluid, so either an LCD or plasma display will need addition protection due to their desirability so the risk of theft is high and if a thief cannot steal a display they tend to damage it beyond repair, causing the owner of the TV a major headache.

So what options are there? Well you can do nothing and live your life always in fear, but this will not suit most forward thinking individuals. This group of people will always be the ones who push boundaries and are prepared to take risks, these people are normally undeterred by the most threats.

An all weather TV.

You can buy an all weather television that can be left outdoors, however these can be damaged and are extremely expensive, around three times the price of a normal TV. The screen of the display can be smashed with a crowbar or hammer a "tool of the trade" for a thief.

Outdoor TV case.

An outdoor TV case is normally constructed from steel, as wood will splinter and any polymer product will crack if a hammer is used to gain un-authorised access to the unit. These come with both cooling and heating, so depending upon were you intend to put the unit. They are also locked with security locks and have an anti vandal none reflective viewing window that has a rear support frame.

What standard is best?

If you are in Europe, you should be looking for a product that has an IP rating such as IP65, this has been tested by washing it down with a high pressure water jet, IP56 is splash proof and should be for locations that are actually undercover.

NEMA 4X is the American standard and is the nearest standard to IP65, so depending upon your location this can give you a fair idea of what is required.

Security.

Well firstly if the outdoor TV enclosure is located in an unlit area and secluded you may wish to install an alert light that illuminates when someone passes the PIR, the TV case is can also come with an alarm, so if anyone accesses the unit a high decibel alarm is activated, blasting the eardrums of a thief. The doors can be securely locked into the body of the TV enclosure and with concealed hinges this makes a real deterrent to a thief.

Conclusion.

Well if you intend to put a TV outdoors you need to establish if you can afford to risk the damage of your TV, if not you need to offer some sort of outdoor protection for your TV. Prevention is much better than having to replace a damaged TV, even if it is from water or an attempted theft, you have the power to control this, act now and do not be a victim.
